Do the Sock Hop! Sock Knitting Class When: 3 sessions-July 23,30, and August 6 -10:00-1:00 Where: Sunshine Weaving and Fiber Arts, 327 W. Main St., Lebanon Who: anyone who has a basic understanding of knitting What: Introduction to sock knitting Cost: $65.00, we will have yarn and needles that can be purchased at the shop or see the description below if you have your own Description: This is a basic sock-knitting class held in three 2-3 hour weekly sessions, with some knitting done at home. You will learn: German Twisted Cast On Knit gauge in the round Invisible Join Heel flap with enforcement Heel turn Gusset increase & decrease Foot & Toe decrease Kitchener Stitch to finish You will need to bring: Sock weight yarn (or buy in store) Double pointed needles to match your yarn, #1 or 2 preferred (or buy in store) - see below for options: Set of 5 DPNs, set of 4 will work Circular needles if magic loop is preferred (will not be taught) Set of 3 flexi-flip needles Stitch markers (optional) Scissors Tapestry needle Notepad, pen/pencil Water/snacks Session 1: Introduction & picking of a sock size to knit. Knit a gauge in the round & calculate necessary cast-on stitches. Cast on and join in the round. Knit cuff and start heel flap with enforcement. Knit remaining heel flap rows at home. Session 2: Q&A, review of Lesson 1. Knit gusset increase & decrease. Knit remaining gusset decrease and foot at home. Session 3: Q&A, review of Lesson 2. Knit toe decrease, close up with Kitchener stitch, weave in ends. Knit second sock at home. Instructor: Born and raised in Switzerland, Gertrud Jeffries moved to the United States (California SF Bay Area) in 1986 and to Tennessee in 2021. She has knitted and crocheted in fits and starts since age 7, but only began to love these arts in adulthood. She has been an avid crocheter and knitter for the past 12 years. Gertrud is married to Chuck and has one adult son who lives in Nashville. Incidentally, her son is the one who got her started knitting again by giving her some basic supplies as a Christmas present.
